POLAR VOICES

Polar Voices is Ensemble XXI's Musical Voyage to the Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic.
It will include field trips and visits by the orchestra to the indigenous communities throughout the Arctic. The Indigenous people are a vital part of the cultural life of our world. We are recording and filming the indigenous people singing their ancient music, thousands of years old. These collections, recordings, films and other materials will be repatriated to the indigenous people. In this way the younger generations can appreciate what can be done and should be done. There are already communities in the Arctic where awareness and pride of the indigenous musical traditions have now been awakened through Polar Voices – where young people have begun recording their grandparents.

Music: Seán Ó Riada (1931-1971) Lento from Hercules Dux Ferrariae played by Ensemble XXI Conductor Lygia O'Riordan
